Qatar Eid Celebration

There is a special importance of Eid ul-Fitr for Qataris as it is this time when whole family meets and celebrates. Responsibility of family is first priority for everyone. Eid brings with it spirit of togetherness and community into people of Qatar and make everyone even most complainer of all into a very unusual good mood. People start preparing for Eid generally between ten to two weeks previous Ramadan’s end. It is a busy time especially for women of Qatar because they did most of preparations. Tailors get large number of orders to make traditional dresses or new abayas for women also famous as disdaashas along with traditional clothes for their kids.

Many men also go to a tailor to make thowbs or long, loose-fitting robes of white colour for them. During Ramadan’s ten last days in Doha, which is capital of Qatar is a time when traffic is at its peak along with shops, souks or markets and tailors are flooded with people so that they get all Eid preparations on time. During Ramadan’s few last days it is usual to spot police on corners of nearly every street keeping traffic under their control. Qataris generally prepare and decide well in advance about whey they will wear, what types of sweets they will purchase and who they will visit.

To emphasize specialness of this occasion, some Qataris go for buying new furniture for their home or just rearrange it in their home. Barbers and salons also remain packed just before a week from Eid. Women get their facials, hair dye and haircuts done while men get their beards shaped and trimmed. Girls and women wait for hours to get complicated henna patterns on their arms and hands. Festivals of Muslim are set according to sightings available locally of many phases of moon and dates they fix to celebrate this occasion they provide based on approximations.

During Ramadan’s lunar month that precedes Eid al-Fitr, Muslims fast in daytime and feast in night interrupting usual business patterns. Many restaurants remain closed during day and drinking and smoking may be restricted. There can arise some disruption and can continue during Eid al-Fitr itself. Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr can last from 2 to 10 weekdays and that depends on region. Traditionally, no one invites anyone. You just need to drop by your Muslim friend’s place and wish them. It is a good practice if you inform your friend in advance that you going to drop in.

It is a tradition that every one stay at their house on Eid’s first day. Food differs from nation to nation. Children receive goodies, toys, clothes they like and mainly which their parents can afford. As per tradition they also receive money or Eidi.
