Eid Foods

Both the Muslim festival celebrations of Eid include various special foods of the localities and the countries.

Eid-ul-Fitr Cuisines

Eid-ul-Fitr is known by “Sweet Eid” because of the variety of sweet dishes being cooked and consumed on this day celebrating Ramadan’s (brings Allah’s mercy) happy end. In order to celebrate Eid, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran and India have many traditional dishes. The breakfast includes Sheer Khurma which is a sweet dish made of sevaiyaan (a long form of pasta) cooked with dates in milk. It also consumed before the Eid prayer offerings. It depends from locality to locality the type of dishes being cooked but all the forms of dishes are sweet dishes only. Cham cham, Gulab Jamun, Barfi, rasmalai (a sweet dish made of milk) and various other sweet dishes are very popular in the areas of South Asia. The dishes are consumed in the houses as well as offered to friends and relatives who come for a visit on this festival.

Eid-ul-Adha Cuisines

“The Salty Eid” is known as Eid-ul-Adha because of various dishes other than the sweet dishes are being prepared including mutton or beef depending on slaughter of animal in the houses. The Slaughtered animal’s meat is offered as presents to relatives, poor’s and friends. On the Eid-ul-Adha day, it is must to have a barbecue. In the breakfast, the animal’s fried liver is consumed and various other dishes are consumed including kebabs (it is a boneless meat that is meshed and roasted or fried) Quorma, haleem and various other varieties. The dishes of rice like Biryani and different varieties of Pulao are also very famous in areas of South Asia.


On the occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, various forms of Beverages are very popular in the forms of varieties of soft drinks.
